VIDEONYSTAGMOGRAPHY- DIAGNOSIS AND MANAGEMENT OF GIDDINESS
What is VNG?
VNG is a complete diagnostic system for recording, analyzing, and reporting eye movements using video imaging technology, in which hi-tech video goggles with infrared cameras are used. VNG uses a series of tests used to determine whether a vestibular disease(part of inner ear) may be causing a balance or dizziness problem; VNG can differentiate between a central(brain related) and a peripheral(inner ear)vestibular lesion, and,if peripheral, it can differentiate between unilateral and bilateral vestibular loss.
Who should undergo VNG?
Patients with vertigo, dizziness or imbalance can undergo VNG.
Is it safe to undergo a VNG?
It is an absolutely safe and painless procedure.
How long will it take for the VNG test?
A complete testing takes about 20-25 minutes.
How reliable is this test?
VNG testing is more accurate, more consistent, and more comfortable for the patient than Electrnystagmography as it measures movement of the eyes directly.
